Main features
- Works with most Hot Wheels, however we recommend to ask us if your Hot Wheels can be converted into a RC car
- Kit includes everything you need for RC conversion except tools that you can order in local shops
- A car can be controlled with any device with WiFi (mobile phones, tablets, laptops, raspberry pi based controllers, esp32 based controllers) or with an optional remote control that you can order at our shop as well
- Realistic Physics: Features proportional steering and throttle for an authentic driving experience.
- Enhanced Drifting: A built-in gyroscope on the control board simplifies drifting, mimicking the performance of larger-scale RC cars.
- Dual Control Options: Operate the car using either a physical controller or a mobile phone.
- Customizable Firmware: Open-source firmware lets you modify and tailor the car's software to your preferences.
- Built-in Features: Select models include sound and lighting for added realism.
- Impressive Range: Operates up to 20 meters indoors and 30 meters outdoors.
- Interactive Layout Integration: Attach small NFC tags to the car's underside and connect NFC readers to layout modules for automated interactions, like opening a garage gate when the car crosses a designated spot.
- FPV Capability: Add a camera to turn your car into a first-person-view (FPV) vehicle. Watch the video below to see an FPV micro car in action!
- Frequent Updates: Receive weekly firmware updates with new features and improvements.

FAQ
How to order Hot Wheels / 1:64 RC conversion into a remote control car?
If you cannot find a car model you would like to order in our store, just contact us at hey@toys.engineering. Don't forget to send a link to the car you would like to convert. We will check if we can build a remote control car from your favorite model and inform you of the price and estimated production time. Usually, Hot Wheels conversions into remote control cars cost 150–170 EUR, including the car itself. Other 1:64 cars cost slightly more, up to 200 EUR.
Are cars shipped fully assembled?
Yes, you receive fully assembled cars along with spare parts. You only need to charge the battery using a USB-C cable, and you're ready to ride and drift.
Can I develop my own firmware for cars converted by Toys.Engineering?
Yes, we use custom RC boards designed in-house specifically for battery-powered vehicles. The firmware is based on Arduino, and the board includes an ESP32S3 SoC, an accelerometer/gyroscope, two motor drivers, outputs for servo motors and LEDs, and a sound amplifier. Our guides include information on how to get started with firmware development, and our GitHub account provides examples. You can also order the board for remote control cars separately from our online store.
Is the firmware open-source?
Yes, the firmware included with all cars is fully open-source.
What can I create with layout electronic modules?
With layout electronic modules, you can add lighting effects and various actions, such as opening gates, playing sounds when a car crosses specific locations on the layout, or displaying messages on screens.
Can I order only the conversion kit and convert a car myself?
We plan to release the conversion kit around December–January. It will include everything you need for the conversion: a controller board, a DC motor, a servo motor, screws, wheels with rubber tires, and a chassis. The estimated price is 90 EUR.
